Data Privacy Week: A Milestone in Data Privacy and Protection
In 2008, the National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCA)—the nation’s leading nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity and privacy education—debuted Data Privacy Day. It’s an extension of Data Protection Day in Europe, which commemorates the January 28, 1981 signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. In 2023, NCA expanded the day into Data Privacy Week.
The goal of Data Privacy Week—taking place between January 21-27 this year—is to spread awareness about online privacy, because data privacy should be a priority both for organizations and individuals. NCA’s objectives are twofold: they want to help organizations understand why it is important that they respect their users’ data and citizens understand that they have the power to manage their data.
To back up their mission, NCA offers a wide range of resources, including guides, events, programs, and more. To learn more about all the resources they make available, visit NCA’s website.
